Music for Arts’ Sake – June 25
Music for Arts' Sake, with support from Pro Musica of Detroit, Inc., will feature North Rosedale Park resident and classical guitarist Peter Fletcher and tenor Irwin Reese in recital on Sunday, June 25. The guitar and voice recital is set for 3 p.m. at the North Rosedale Park Community House.
American classical guitarist Peter Fletcher holds the Master of Music degree from the Eastman School of Music, where he was twice the recipient of the Eastman Graduate Award. He gives over 100 concerts a year, and his recordings for Centaur Records have been critically acclaimed. He returns to Weill Recital Hall at Carnegie Hall on May 6 in a solo recital. He will make his official Detroit debut at Orchestra Hall in April 2018.
New York- basedTenor Irwin Reese was a chorus member of the Metropolitan Opera for 23 years, including roles in Death in Venice, Der Rosenkavalier, Madame Butterfly, and Il Barbiere di Siviglia. He has performed in tours of Porgy and Bess with Houston Grand Opera and in the world premiere of X: The Life and Times of Malcolm X with New York City Opera. He received his Bachelor of Music degree from the College of Wooster and his Master of Music degree from Manhattan School of Music. Reese was featured in television commercials for the New York State Lottery and Traveler’s Insurance and sang on two episodes of Nickelodeon’s Dora the Explorer.
They will be performing works by Federico Mompou, John Dowland, Thomas Morley, Benjamin Britten, Isaac Albeniz and selected African American spirituals.
